It’s officially awards season in Hollywood, and the calendar kicks off with the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, January 10. Many of our fave celebrities, series, and films are nominated, including Zendaya for Euphoria, Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building, Jenna Ortega for Wednesday, and Austin Butler for Elvis.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association previously announced that comedian and actor Jerrod Carmichael will host, and Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, an honor “presented to a talented individual for their outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” according to Variety. Ryan Murphy, the creator behind 2022 record-breaking hits such as DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher, will receive the fourth Carol Burnett Award, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On January 3, the outlet announced some of the presenters for the show, which includes Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Niecy-Nash Betts, Ana Gasteyer, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Natasha Lyonne, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Nicole Byer, Quentin Tarantino, and Tracy Morgan.
2023 marks the Golden Globes’ return to the small screen. Last year, the ceremony was boycotted and removed off-air following criticisms of the HFPA’s lack of diversity (out of an 87-person voting body, the organization did not include one single Black member) and unethical business conduct, as examined in the Los Angeles Times. In response, the HFPA announced plans to reform and made a commitment to increase diversity among its members.

Who are the 2023 Golden Globe nominees?
The nominations are in, and we cannot wait to cheer on our fave celebs. Zendaya is nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama for Euphoria, while Selena Gomez and Jenna Ortega are nominated in the Musical or Comedy category for Only Murders in the Building and Wednesday, respectively. Selena’s co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short are nominated for OMITB, as well.
Evan Peters is nominated for Best Actor in a Limited Series – Drama for DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, while Aubrey Plaza and Jennifer Coolidge have been recognized for their roles in season 2 of The White Lotus. Elizabeth Debicki is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown.
Series we simply could not get enough of this year have been nominated in the Best Television Series categories, including Wednesday, The Crown, Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, The White Lotus, and House of the Dragon.
