Of all the things celebrities wear to stay cool in the sweltering Los Angeles heat, black leggings and wool sneakers are normally not top of their (or our) lists. Flowy, cotton dresses or coastal grandma-inspired linen pants? These are more like it. Not long, sun-absorbing black leggings and warm wool tennis shoes… right?

Hilary Duff would beg to differ. The How I Met Your Father star was recently spotted running errands around LA, looking like an effortless mom on-the-go wearing a pair of long black leggings and sneaks. Only, if you look closely, you’ll realize they’re Tavi High Waisted Leggings ($85), which are sweat-wicking, and Allbirds Wool Runners ($145), which are *actually* thermoregulating, meaning her outfit is warm-weather friendly after all, and totally cute nonetheless.

Before you brave the July heat in your old black leggings and sweaty sneakers, stop. Duff’s look works for a reason.

First are the timeless black legging which come from Tavi, an A-list approved brand beloved by stars like Hailey Bieber and Gal Gadot for its studio-ready active apparel. Like all of the brand’s products, they’re designed to stretch and move during barre, yoga, and pilates, made with a four-way flex fabric that’s sculpting, yet supple. While some technical apparel can feel thick and heavy, these aren’t, and they’re completely sweat-wicking, so if you do break a sweat, they’ll dry in a jif. Even comfier, they feature flat-lock seams, making thigh chafing a thing of the past. *Adds to cart.*

Then, of course, there are the Allbirds sneakers. Duff traded in traditional flip flops or strappy sandals for a wool (yes, wool) shoe, that are actually cool. Despite its roasty reputation, merino wool is naturally superfine and known for its thermoregulating superpowers. So even when temps are sweltering, your feet stay comfortable and snug (and less grimy from sweat-borne bacteria, thanks to wool’s antimicrobial powers, too). Complete with a sugarcane-based midsole and recycled plastic laces, they’re about as sustainable as they come—and so comfortable to boot.

If you’re not entirely sold on the wool, Allbirds makes even cooler designs that’ll stop your dreaded foot sweat in its tracks. The silky-smooth Tree Runners ($105) are made from an airy, eco-friendly eucalyptus blend that is like a cold breeze for your feet. While not a sneaker, the Sugar Gliders ($60) are the brand’s riff on slides, and make a water-friendly sneaker ideal days at the pool or beach.

Whatever you decide to keep your feet sweet in, top your ‘fit off with a plain white T-shirt (which you can get from Tavi, too, for just $45), and you can look and feel as cool as Lizzie McGguire herself.
