London Marathon runner will regret absolutely legging it from the start

Tens of thousands of people are taking on the physical and mental challenge

London Marathon is well and trully underway, with runners already chasing stardom.

At least 42,000 people from all corners of the world flocked to the capital for one of the most exciting events of the year.

They will run the 26.2 miles from Greenwich to The Mall, and raise millions of pounds for charities in the meantime.

Over the years, advice from those who have previously taken on the mammoth challenge has been to ‘take it slow’ and ‘pace yourself’.

But one unnamed man at the very front had a different idea.

Moments after Lionesses Leah Williamson, Ellen White and Jill Scott pressed the buzzer for a final time this morning, he bolted.

Dressed in a pair of black shorts and blue tank top, he can be seen metres ahead of everyone else.

Elite runners are normally at the front of the pack but maybe he will give them a run for their money.

We cannot tell if they looked concerned with his speedy start and we hope he also does not regret it later in the race.

Paula Radcliffe, who is commenting on the event for the BBC, had some things to say about his somewhat questionable strategy.

‘That guy is going to be paying for it,’ the three-time winner of the London Marathon stressed.

The race is still in its early stages but the brave man cannot be seen in the leaders’ group.
