One Lubbock School Coach is Collecting Shoes for 7th Grade Team

One Lubbock area school coach is asking the community for help to be able give back to his student athletes. O.L. Slaton Middle School basketball Coach Jaime Martinez realized during his time as the boys lineman coach during football that most of his athletes were wearing worn out shoes. This realization sparked and idea within Coach Martinez as he decided he wanted to get some gently used shoes for his basketball players this season.

KAMC news reported that Coach Martinez took his idea to Facebook back on October 31st where he could ask some friends from the local community for any gently used shoes, or even unused new shoes, for his 7th grade basketball players. Instead of just receiving a few likes and comments Coach Martinez received messages about people wanting to buy his players brand new shoes instead of gently used shoes.

On the day of O.L. Slaton Middle school’s season opener, November 10, Coach Martinez had already received and distributed 15 pairs of shoes for his players to wear in their game against Frenship Middle school. Coach Martinez is still in need of a few more pairs of shoes for the rest of his team so they can look good and feel good on and off the court. Anyone interested in donating shoes or helping in any way can email Coach Jaime Martinez, jmar4423@gmail.com, for more information.
