They were married on January 17, 1951, and they shared 67 years of marriage before his death in May, 2018. To their union were born two sons, Ronald Joseph and Wesley Scott Buhrman.

Jean always enjoyed working with numbers and her primary occupation was that of bookkeeper in each of the communities they lived.

In 1993, Jean and Carl moved to Hutchinson, where they spent their retirement years. After her husband Carl passed, she moved into Pine Village, a retirement center in Moundridge, to be closer to family.

She also loved spending time with Carl and friends square dancing, country dancing, playing cards, and volunteering at numerous events in the Hutchinson area. Jean had several unique collections including carnival glass, coins, stamps, and political mugs. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was always top on her list and brought her great joy.
